As a city in the Hill Country of Texas in the San Antonio metro area, Boerne is the county seat of Kendall County and home to nearly 7,000 residents in 2003. Boerne is a place of small-town charm, nature conservation, historic architecture and community growth.

 

Education
The Boerne Independent School District serves Boerne with 9 public schools and has been nationally recognized for its excellence Advanced Placement Program, which has high success rates compared to other schools in the U.S. In 2007 8 Boerne High School students qualified for the highly-esteemed National Merit Scholarship Program. One of those students received the scholarship. Boerne High School is also commended for its athletic program, named the best in the region. Within 50 miles of Boerne, there are 14 colleges, universities and trade schools, including Saint Mary''s University of San Antonio, Trinity University and Northwest Vista College.

 

Attractions
The Agricultural Heritage Museum preserves historic farming stories, tools and objects used in the Hill Country and is one of the museums in the area. The Cave Without a Name is less than 12 mile from Boerne in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. It is a natural live cavern full of stalactite, stalagmite, soda straw, flowstones, dams and all. The cavern is lighted and open to the public for touring. There are 2 wineries in Boerne and a total of 4 in the Boerne greater area. Wine tasting and vineyard touring draw masses of visitors.

 

Recreation
The Cibolo Wilderness Center provides Boerne residents with 100 acres of trails and wilderness. The Center also has education opportunities and summer camps. Guadalupe River State Park sits along 4 miles of the Guadalupe River and provides canoing, fishing, swimming, tubing, picnicking, camping, birdwatching and hiking. The park also has a 5.3-mile horse trail that is open to mountain biking. Next door is the Honey Creek State Natural Area where a 2-hour guided interpretive tour is available, covering the history, geology and flora and fauna. Many other such parks and facilities are available in and around Boerne.
